South Africa in Focus

Note to Readers: Race Has Nothing to Do With You is in South Africa for 2011-12.

Welcome to Race Has Nothing To Do WIth You

Much of my life is consumed by schools, so what I write is directly related to educators, students, advocates, parents, and caring people. But I am human, and I write about what moves me. I write so I can survive the hatred, ignorance, and blatant apathy towards low income people of color. Read on, and if you love or hate what I write, let me know. Peace.

circumference

death suffering threats of loss
painful shredding of dignity violence
ignorant money-centered health care
capitalistic framing of illness
drug-induced silencing of those in fear
of losing control over their lives
and all of a sudden
cant swallow cannot be comfortable
just surviving becomes infinitely
more relevant than battling white racism
and black internalized racism
and this is exactly how / why
those struggling against oppression
stop
because sometimes
life requires us to be present and a full-time
battling of belittling systems also
requires 150% presence.
